With Jen Larson, KPA-CTP and Whitney Spence, CPDT-KA
Concept by Courtney Emken
Next up in our Recall Games series is Hide & Seek! This game builds on the daily recall we have worked on with our dogs and introduces the "emergency recall". This is the callback skill that could REALLY save your dog's life. So don't miss this DogBoy's Dog Vlog and let us know in the comments about how your training with your pup is going!

- Hi, I'm Jen and I'm the head of the training department here at DogBoy's and this is Whitney, one of our certified trainers. We're back today with a few more recall games. Before we play our recall game hide and seek, I would like to introduce you to our little helper today. This is Charlie. He's a papillon. He will use his emergency callback for this game. The emergency callback is a little different from the everyday callback. The daily callback is something like "come" or "here" that you use in your home or on short trips. However, the emergency callback is a special callback notice that you want to set up. It's a bit louder and can transmit long distances that you can use in really important situations like life or death situations where your dog is running out of the house or running in front of a car, that sort of thing. It's really important whenever we practice the emergency recall we are using really high quality reinforcement which is pretty easy with Charlie because he is going to eat everything. So Charlie's emergency callback is a sound that makes pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. It's a high pitched staccato sound because that makes dogs want to come to you. It's kind of an exciting sound. Whitney will distract Charlie. I'll hide behind it and then use Charlie's 911 call to call him over to me. And then I'll reinforce him when he finds me. This is a really fun game to play in your home. So you can have someone distract your dog, you can hide in another room, use the emergency callback, and if they find you it really adds to that because they might get food rewards or something like that. But then they'll find you too, and you're probably their favorite person. So Whitney is going to distract him. I will hide Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. Yeah good boy So good. Well done. We'll do this a few more times. I'll let Whitney distract him and then I'll hide him and call him and reinforce him when he finds me. He looks pretty distracted so I'll give him a call. Charlie, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. Yeah good boy So good. Good boy yeah Well done.
- - [Whitney] Charlie.
- Charlie, where is Whitney? Good boy. Charlie, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. Yes. Good boy. You found me, good job. Where's whitney Charlie, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. Yay. Good boy. You found me. So good. Where is your friend whitney Charlie, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. Yeah good boy So good. Well done. Okay, where is Aunt Whitney? I'm going to hide a slightly different position here. Charlie, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. Yeah good job. Couldn't be fooled, could you? Good boy. Okay, where's Whitney? Well done. So this is a little game of hide-and-seek. You can do this in your house, you can do this in your back yard, anywhere you can hide a little, and then let the dog find you.
